First round of painting...trying something new for me, which is two coats of BLO and then acrylics cut with water. Burnt umber and black as the base coat, tan on the head. I'm planning to build layers with the paints to get the final effect, although I like the initial coat a lot!

Treever, Your gunners are looking pretty good and that's the prettiest model I've ever seen. When I first started carving I carved gunners and decoratives did the whole competition thing, not so much anymore. I haven't done a gunner in along time and the last decorative was a Hooded Merganser commission. Keep up the great work!! Would like to see them when there finished.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I seriously doubt my birds are competition quality, but I have fun making them. And really, these are being made to be used...so the ducks will be the final judges.

Round two of paint.

I think I am calling this bird done...if I keep tinkering with the paint I will have to strip it down and start all over!
