Default Decoy WIPs

Haven't posted in a loooong time, so I thought I'd toss up these. Two gunner decoys and a little bookshelf fella. The one I haven't gotten past the bandsaw stage yet!

Hi Treever, these are looking great even at this stage. I'm not a decoy carver, but sure can appreciate the beginnings of nice work.
I hope you will give up updates as you progress. Will you be paintings them too?
Kathy

The bookshelf decoy...the buyer requested woodburning highlights only. The gunners...the other buyer requested one painted and one left "nude" for him to airbrush.

Thanks for the nice words. Had to take a break today as it's snowing again and the garage isn't heated.

Hi TREEVER, you can see that your not a beginner at Decoys. You have a lot of wood to remove before it's done. They look like they will be great. would like to see your finished pieces . What wood do you use? Merle

Lots of wood to remove! And I switched from power to hand-carving so it takes a little longer, too. These are basswood, split in half, hollowed, then glued together to reduce weight. The bookshelf bird is basswood, but there's obviously no need to hollow him out.

Cliff- almost had a bare lawn and now this...working on getting 6-9 inches of snow tonight.

Finished these guys. The details are washed out in the poor light, but I carved feather details today. It's not perfectly smooth, but they are gunners, so I guess the ducks won't mind too much. My daughter helped model them...the blurry shot of her is after she clunked her head on one.

Treever, a really great looking job on the decoys! And you sure could'nt have gotten a cuter little girl to model them.

Looks like they have been claimed !

That is all you can ever ask of a carving , to be wanted .

Nice work .

Thanks guys. Forgot to add some detail to the bills, but when I can pry them from her hands I will get them completed, painted and shipped off to the waiting owner. And, then get that little bookshelf guy done from the first photos. My daughter calls them "quack quacks". Kids crack me up.
