Rather a stunning bird, isn't it. David, you have outdone yourself. The Night Heron is breath-taking. Beautifully done! Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for the comments.

The Heron is actually one that I finished last fall but just now added to the gallery. For some reason I had not been able to upload anything to the gallery until just recently (I kept getting an error message) so I just recently added a bunch of my carvings from the last year.

David,
Incredible work! I'm carving a chair that has herons and egrets for legs and I dream of them coming out like yours! In my wildest dreams! Beautiful workmanship, true art!

Thumbs up Re: David sercel's yellow crowned night heron

David Aaron Sercel...

I will have to make sure I remember that name...as Calynne said, you WILL be famous. Your work is outstanding! I don't know what you're doing right, but keep doing it!

I was particularly struck by your web page for "The Sculpture Process" . I didn't know anything about carving birds, but after seeing your website, I know now for sure there is a lot of talent and effort going into your work. If you want to learn about carving birds, look at David's website. I highly recommend it for a learning tool.

David, one day, you should consider writing a book on bird carving along the same format as "the Sculpture Process". The explanation is simple, clear and well demonstrated--not surprisingly, like all of your work.

And thanks for the inspriration to carve more. Three or so years and all that talent! I should only hope the quality of my carving work is anywhere near as good as yours in three years. Wow!

I hadn't seen the tutorial when I started this post or I would have added that it was well done as well.I don't have a power carver but I can certinly understand now how you work with one much better than I did. Now if I could just figure out which bits I'd need for each carving?
