OK heres what I did today all the preliminary thinking and composition work is finished basicly its all refineing from here .The base is overall done except the painting and attaching the birds .I recarved the lower left blossom I didnt like the other it was too small and didnt match the shape as the other 2 blossoms. The wood is black walnut the lower platform will remail natural black walnut the pillar will be painted flat black. If you can picture in your minds eye a flying hummingbird drinking from the top blossom ( Male ) and the female perched on that bud between blossom 1 and 2 .she will be sitting there looking up at here boyfriend.
Anyway heres the base leaves are brass sheet the stem is copper wire the blossoms are tupelo .See picture

OK heres the work I did today the base was sanded sealed and the upper pillar painted a satin black the wood grain fades into black for a transition that really is pleasing and better than a stark black .I just sprayed the pillar from the top down and avoided paint on the lower end .I then used a green pad to unify the two areas in tone.I painted the vine a leaf green rustoleum this is base color only and will be accented with differing shades of green later. The blossoms are in pimer and will be air brushed later too.
GHeres a picture of the base I will begin the birds this weekend.
Later Gang.
