![]() Carved from a natural edge slab of Pennsylvania Cherry. Size is 22" x 13" I had watched this tree grow on our property for over 30 years. It was harvested two years ago and I wanted to carve something for myself from this wood. Last edited by Mirro; 06-22-2009 at 12:40 PM. |

Thanks Jerry, Ron, and Bill for your kind comments. Your positive encouragement is sincerely appreciated. Yes, Bill, I did enjoy carving this cherry wood. In my opinion, carving hardwoods is definitely more difficult and more challenging than carving softer woods. I think the extra effort is worthwhile. This piece of cherry had a very consistent composition and texture that was nice for carving.

Glad to hear that you liked carving in cherry. It's one of my favorites. It's somewhat more difficult than basswood and some others, but I think the look of cherry is worth the extra effort. I'm about to post a picture of a piece I just finished. Bill (Aiken, SC) |

Thank you, Nomad, Joy, and Forrest. I changed the photo today because we finally had sunshine and I like to take project pictures in the natural light. I find it very difficult to show the natural color and grain of the wood using artificial light and avoid the glare of a hand rubbed finish at the same time. I do appreciate your comments. Dick
