Default Cedar Lion

Cedar Lion 12" long, 4" wide 5.5" tall, (Poplar base= 12"x5.5"x3")

I bought the White Cedar and found the Red Cedar but I don't have much of the red left, it's a rich warm red almost like burl and was wonderful to work with, it does not have the light streaks that most red cedar has, wish I could find some more like it.

The Lion and Base were coated with Deft lacquer sanding sealer and three coats of Deft clear wood finish, this is an all natural finish with no paint or stain color added.

William,
Again, I really love the way you work with the natural colors of the wood and shapes.
The detail on the base of the constellation is a nice touch.

Hi Bill,

Really nice work. Can you describe how you glued up the head, especially with the curves for the mane. Seems difficult.

Thank you Christina, The Red and White Cedar really do go together and I enjoy working with them but they can be tricky to carve. I'm a Leo, that is on one end and the sign is on the other.

Hey Ron, it was not that bad, trim a little and try it over and over until you get a tight fit and then use no-clamp glue. I use Devcon high strength 5 minute epoxy for almost all glue jobs unless I have a flat surface then it's tightbond III. With 5 minute epoxy you have to work fast when gluing, just hold it in place for a few minutes until it starts to set and gets hot and it's there to stay.

William, that is a wonderful carving, when I first looked at the pix I thought it was a lager chainsaw piece, quite surprised at the size when I read the post, very well done.

Thanks Clif,

Did you notice the snow in my back yard? I saw what the snow and Ice did to your dock this year so I know you get lots of snow up your way but this winter is almost over and this is the first time this year that we have had the ground covered

Was not always this way but the last 10 years have been really mild in Maryland.

Bill, I noticed the snow but never said anything, I just assumed every one got the white stuff. I've still got 4 feet of ice on my lower property.
