| I think I'm hooked on these red and white cedar carvings, this duck is 6.5" wide x 7" deep x 7" tall with all natural finish except for the white neck ring to hide the glue joint. This is the first half duck I've done, looks like we both lost our butts recently ![]() The back and bottom were sealed with water based sealer so it would not turn the wood dark, the rest is sealed with lacquer sanding sealer and all of it has 2 coats of Deft clear. Beautiful! I really like the way you have "hinted" at the feathers.

You've really captured the essential "duckness" of the animal without slavishly making an literal copy. Very artistic & very nice. Well done. RussL. |

William, I always have to see what you're up to. The finish on your pieces always compliments as well as anything I could imagine, and again, I love the use of mixing woods. What's next with you? Christina |

| Thank you all, I'm glad you liked the duck. The lower shore of Maryland is decoy country and that's what I carved at first but the last few years I've been carving other things mostly because of the diversity of this forum, but I still enjoy carving decoys. Christina, my friends found the red cedar when they were in the woods cutting firewood and they brought me a 6' log from 6" to 9" and I asked them what I could carve for them for getting me the wood and she said she liked woodspirits so I'm carving my first woodspirit now (6.5" dia x 13" tall) and making a real mess of it Hey Merle, good idea! I could make a set of bookends with the back half. HappY TrailS Bill ^v^ |
