Well Anita, Depends again on how many birds are in that flock. No? Yes? Maybe?

Hi Anita,

I don't have "Art Anatomy of Animals" but I do have "How To Draw Animals" by Jack Hamm, and there are about 10 pages of elephant drawings in that book. He gives a good breakdown of the various aspects of the elephant, great detail, easy to understand.

Sounds like a great project. Are you going to keep us posted with a WIP series as you carve?

Bob

I do have an anatomy book like that and refer to it often, mainly because I get pretty confused about where a 4 legged animal's "knees" "elbows" and "hip bones" and "wrists" are, if you get them right it means you can ensure the legs pose in a believable way.I'm looki g forward to seeing your project unfold!

Bill - I'd love to see the rhino, any pics? Is there a flock of birds sitting on it? (They seem to attract more birds than any other animal I have ever seen!)

Bob - the How To Draw Animals book sounds like agreat resource. Thanks! And yes, I will be posting pics of the elephant WIP. Thanks for your interest!

Eleanor - do you recall the name of your animal anatomy book? I am really looking forward to starting the project and also really glad to have some people who are curious to see it. That's motivational!! I love elephants, as you might imagine, so I really look forward to doing the research as well.

Have you tried going to the zoo to get some ideas of the anatomy and proportions of an elephant? I say be ambitious and go for the birds.
