Default Carving Curly Hair

I have been commissioned to carve a soft coated wheaten terrier, does anyone have any good techniques for carving the curly hair?

The wings gate pattern was for dog hair, it gives two methods for short, medium or long hair. I am doing a 7" black lab now and it seems to be working. The hair flow is more important, fortunately my 8 month lab , "Karma" , doesn't mind posing
