Default Carolina Wren

Here's my latest carving. Every year I do a different bird for my mother for Christmas. This will have a new home on Wednesday night.

I did it out of Western Cedar. At least I think that's what it was. I bought the wood long ago at WoodCrafter and I didn't mark the end of it unfortunatley. I found it a very difficult wood to carve. Way too soft. The grain just kept crushing and breaking under a blade.

The brown color is the natural wood color showing through. I only painted the area's not brown.

As always I'm open for critique.

Merry Christmas to all of you.

Dwayne

Dwayne, I really like your bird. How about putting some details in on the vegetation (habitat)?.

Thanks Paul. I really hadn't even thought about placing anything else there other than a brance for it to perch on. Guess I should do some research on a more appropriate surrounding (base), especially on my next carving. I'm working on a sharp shinned hawk presently but have just begun.

Thanks again,
Dwayne

Very nice carving. I like the combination of your painting and the natural wood look. Also excellent job on the base with the scenery. Bird carver
