Great work on these birds. Leads me to questions. What size are they? I followed the lead on to making feet. Would you give us a description of the process you are using for both making and attaching?

Beautiful birds Errol. The whole piece, really, carving, painting, texture, base. I'm impressed! Did you burn or stone in the feather lines?

thanks every one for the kind comments. Paul, they are life size (I also do minatures) I will post some pics of my way of making feet & toes later.
Mark, I stone the entire bird, then on the "soft" feathers, I burn, also on the downy I burn where black really dark, and then very very light elsewhere.

I've been admiring all your birds in your last few posts. You have been busy! I just bought a carving book by Rosalyn Daisey and it has quite a few of the birds you have carved. What are you using for patterns?

Holly, I make most all of my patterns now, since I have a saw now to cut my birds out. I used to use cutouts that I bought because I am a fulltime rv'er and have no room for a bandsaw. I have 4 different books of songbird pictures I have collected. From these I make my patterns,and come up with the different poses, sometimes as I carve. I found out I can cut out the birds with a scroll saw I purchased at a yard sale. Its a older craftsman with a 2 1/2inch cut, and I can carry it in my fifth wheel trailer. Since all my songbirds can be cut from a block of wood 2 1/4" and less this saw works out great. Thank you very much for your kind comments Holly.

Errol, "give up your day job" hell man, you've got it made. You're birds are all spectacular, detail is excellent. One thing I might suggest, "get a bigger 5th wheel and a bigger bird cage, you must be about loaded down by now". Keep the pictures comming, we love 'em.

Thanks every one, Cliff you know how to make person feel good, but its just a hobby for me, and I really enjoy carving. I have so much to learn, and so much to improve on, but thats what its all about, having fun and satisfaction while learning.
