Default Butterfly Carvings

A few weeks back I decided to try my hand at a butterfly carving. After searching around for photos I remembered Hugh Parks did some. I e-mailed Hugh and he sent me some photos and patterns. What I am trying to get at is this message board is one of the best tools I have, when a carver from W.Va. can get help from a carver in Canada. Thanks Hugh for all the info. Here are my first two attempts.

Wonderful work Paul. They look great! Can you give details like what wood you carved them out of...what the legs and antenna are made of...how the legs are attached...etc...

I'd love to try one too.

Thanks,
Dwayne

Dwayne, The flowers and butterflys are carved out of tupelo and painted with acrylics. The antenna and legs are brass wire. I drilled small holes and used 5 min. epoxy to attach them, added a drop of epoxy to the ends of the antenna.

I love your butterflies, especially with theflowe and base. I carve them from poplar to be used as a pin or a magnet. I sell quite a few at craft shows and on my internet Etsy shop.

Those are great! I have a friend who carves hummingbirds and I'm going to show these to him. One sitting on one of the flowers in his hummingbird carvings whoud be a nice addded touch.

Paul, you and Hugh both done good. You are also right that one of the most valuable assests in any activity are the participants. WCI, computers, scanners and the digital camera add up to one of the best sources of assistance one could imagine.

I love the colors. Both of them are equally attractive, and so timely. Spring is a very welcome time, and your butterflies really speak of spring.

thanks for posting,
Christina
