OK, this bird is done. Two coats of satin ploy over burnt basswood. The pics seem to make him look chubby and lose the shape of the head....I swear he looks better in real life!

Treever,is that a suzzy,female mallard duck?? Kinda looks like one but the main thing is you did a great job not only carving it but your burnings really made it come to life. Just good work indeed on your behalf!! Forrest

Thanks, TN...It's actually a metrosexual black duck. Smile Blacks and mallards are very similar in body shape and size...blacks allegedly are a little larger, but I think it's because of the black that makes them look bigger.

Wasn't sure how to translate the feather color in burning without losing the detail...i.e. charring the sucker! The guy wanted "major feather groups, nothing fancy" burned on the duck. I suppose I could have stained it to get the black duck look...hind sight being 20/20. Those are things I think of after I mailed out!

Anyone got any ideas or tips to improve the piece? I'd gladly take them.

They guy I sent it to really liked it...so much so that he emailed me a better picture than what I took!
