Default "Bluebird of Paradise" by Marc Barger

Here's a pic of a male Eastern Bluebird carving I just 'redid'. This was shipped to the collector and good ol' UPS broke it into 4 or 5 pieces!! Long story but they paid the claim in full!! So she shipped it back and I remade the branch (which is what broke). Anyway, used tupelo gum wood for the bird, Buckeye burl for the base, solid brass rods bent and carved for the branch and twigs (now is officially UPS proof), brass sheeting for the leaves and blossoms. Painted with acrylics. Life size.

Beautiful piece Marc. How in the world do you ship something like that? It all looks great.

Beautiful work Mark. It should be UPS proof. Very realistic.

My first visit! I have a friend who is looking for a blue bird pattern suitable for carving earrings. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi Patcarteret, when making small items like earings, I will shrink the profile of the bird in my photo gallery, and print it. Short of just sketching the profile, thats about all you can do. Hope this helps.

That is a beautiful piece. How do you "carve the bent brass"? Do you put something on the brass and then carve that?
