What size basswood do you use for birds of prey? 6x6 or 6x10 or even 6 x12'

Hello woodknomb, The great thing about photocopying a pattern is that you and reduce it or increase it til you get a size that matches the piece of wood you have to use. Most birds are referred to as life-sized (or full sized), 3/4 sized, or 1/2 sized, etc. And then, you can make the wings, head/neck, or tail out of a separate piece of wood and gue it in to eliminate the waste from having to have a piece of wood big enough to do it all in one chunk. I understand that Tupeolo (sp?) wood was better than Basswood for bird carving....no fuzzies and better on grain! You might like to consider that. A bit more expensive, but better results. Bob

I am in the works to get some large blocks Kiln dried by a local kiln operator. Looking at a 3 to 4 week period to dry some as large as 6x11 and 8x11 10fters
