The great thing about photocopying a pattern is that you and reduce it or increase it til you get a size that matches the piece of wood you have to use. Most birds are referred to as life-sized (or full sized), 3/4 sized, or 1/2 sized, etc. And then, you can make the wings, head/neck, or tail out of a separate piece of wood and gue it in to eliminate the waste from having to have a piece of wood big enough to do it all in one chunk.
