Default Bird feet

When using the pewter cast feet, do any of you add putty or filler to the legs for texture or do you just paint right on the pewter?

The legs I've used usually have all the detail right on them,,I used to just paint them as they are.

I would "gesso" them first before painting. It creates bite on the metal.

I did a bird once, haha, such as it was. (haven't done one since) but I did do the gesso on the pewter legs, worked great. I've used it on other metals too. The way to go.
