Yes your right, these two people are certainly masters. I never omitted any one , just was using the two I mentioned as examples . I have seen both Bob's and Jim's work before and they are both excellent carvers.

I agree with all the above. All those mentioned are indeed master bird carvers. I would like to add the name of Greg Woodard to the mix, Woodard Sculpture., whose work I also admire.
One thing I find interesting is that both Robison and Woodard paint with oils. Not a very common practice any more but the finished work speaks for itself.

I would like to add another name to the master bird carver's list.
Gary Eigenberger
He has been winning more and bigger supper awards at the Ward World Championship competions over the last couple of years. Check his birds on his site.

Greg Woodward - I've never met him, but his sculpture... it will bring tears to your eyes. How he manipulates the oils to bring the emotion of the moment to the piece is truly the work of a carving master. See bio page for Greg link: Greg Woodard Biography

I read Greg's biography. I agree he is one of the masters. You can see some of his work in this art gallery

What came to mind the other day, was how interesting a book on Carving Miniature Wildfowl by Bob Guge,at first I said to myself,"why in the world did I purchase a book on miniature wildfowl carving"? Once I started reading it, I could not put it down,Mr Guge goes into great detail in the bird carving, planning, habitat making, realistic detailing, painting and carving all his projects for sale or competion.
All being said,Bob Guge is a true Master Bird Carver that gracfully shares his knowledge and techniques on caving and most of all on how to creat your own patterns.
