Hi Rando Nice job on the bear. I just did a 7' one in cottonwood for a friend
in her yard who left 7' foot of the tree on the stump.She really enjoys it and
cares for it like one of the family.I have been chain saw carving for 2-years
and have done about 40 and gave all away. I just finished a 4' grizzley for
a lady that is going to air brush a 4' Eagle picking up a 27' steelhead trout
for me.More carvers should try the chain saw type,but oonly if they are
safety minded. Gopher

That is great. I like the step by step process shots to see how you moved along. How long did it take? Based on the pictures it looks like most of the work was done in two days, true of false.

Hey Gopher, good to hear someone else is making chips with a chainsaw. I agree it opens up a whole new door to carving. But, like you say you need to be safety oriented and also in pretty good shape. It is hard work. I would encourage anyone who feels up to it, to give it a try. It is very rewarding!

Ah Chip, are you kiddin' me? Each stage is at the end of a day. Someone asked me how long it took, and I told them 42 years! Actually, I probably had about 25 hours of saw time spread over several days. Then, I had to sand away the saw marks and carve in the fur. Burn with a propane torch for color and apply stain. I applied a coat of spar urethane, and still need to apply two more. So. I guess he still isn't finished.
