Default Avocet

This is an Avocet i carved a couple of years ago,it set in the house unfinished waiting for my wife to paint.Like most artist or crafters she has to be in the mood to paint.
When my daughter said she would like to have the Avocet, my wife painted it and we gave it to my daughter for her birthday today.
The carving is tupelo and the finish is acrylic paints. The carving came out pretty good, but i'm not pleased with the feathers.

Beautiful caving Bill. Nice paint job as well. I bet your daughter loved it. Did you burn the feathers in or carve them? I think they look pretty darn good.

That's a cool avocet, Bill. I envy you carvers that have a spouse that will paint your carvings! Sometimes the painting take as much time as the carving -- for me. Thanks for sharing it and I hope your daughter loved it!

Hi Bill,

Great bird! I'm agreeing with Randy - if we're not at least a little dissatisfied with a finished carving, we haven't learned anything from the process. I think there's always room for learning & for improvement. You've done a great job with this one, and I'm sure it's a great present she's happy to receive!

Keep 'em coming!

Mark
