Default Antlers and elk

Hey all here are a set of whitetail antlers and an elk that I recently finished.
Basswood and acrylics. I have about 80 hours in the elk. I plan on starting a full size whitetail antler set sometime this spring. Hope you enjoy and please feel free to critique them.

Are the dear antlers carved too? I swear they look like the real things.

Nice job! I love deer and elk. May have to try to carve someday. I have a book that addresses the subject. Keep up the good work.

kitaye yes the deer antlers are carved wood. They are about 4 inches wide and 6 inches high.

Thanks Don. I also have a book on the elk carving. For me the hardest part is the antlers, to get both side symetrical takes some doing for me.

Wow. Much nicer than real ones. And I'm sure the deer think so too.

Nice work.

I realize this is an old set of pics you have posted here from Sept. of 2003 I believe but I still want to let you know that I am truly impressed with the details you have added to the bases of the antlers on the whitetail rack you carved. I have been carving for quite a few years (19) and have yet to get all of the details down as you have on these antlers. My first set took me over 60 hours as I went extremely slow as not to make any mistakes or break the small set I carved but I just couldn't get the detail from my head to the wood no matter how hard I tried. Great job !!
