Russ and Sealeveler,
I agree that there is something special about the look of antique style birds. I maintain a good reference library of books on old decoys, and I take the opportunity to look at and handle old decoys whenever I can.

The canvasback pictured was carved almost exclusively with handtools, the exception being the use of a bandsaw to rough out the block. I really love employing traditional methods in my creative process.

I appreciate your comments on the decoy.

Mike

Nice job on the canvasback! I've got on my list to do some antique style birds. I've got a couple of blocks of Northern White Cedar squared up...just need to get to it. Thx for the inspiration.

Randy,
Glad I could give you the "push" needed to get started on your contemporary antique decoys. They are really fun to do and they certainly evoke the imagination. them up when you are finished, I would love to see them. Good carving!
