I only WISH I could carve animals! I've got a Noah's Ark pattern I've been working on slowly and the animals are primitive at best. Jillsy |

Everyone has probably seen this but...here's an animal. Life size. Represents what a World's Record Whitetail would look like. Took me one full year working full time to complete. Tupelo and bass. Acrylic paint. For a collector in WI.

That deer is way out of my league! But if you've ever been exposed to Yoga you know the pose, "Downward Dog!" This is my version... it's called "Om Dog!" Primative but cute and a hit with the kids. It is actually one of the first carving projects that I did and I still get a kick out of making them. As with some other simple things that I carve that amuse my bewildered mind I carry one of these and a carving knife along with me when I take the wife to the doctors or shopping. Time just passes by and before I know it we're heading for home! When the carving is completed I paint them and then the next time that I go out I'll take one with me and give it away as a thank you gift or to some little one that the wife and I run into along the way. What amazes me is that for being so simple to carve folks will ask.... "You didn't carve that, did you?... No way."

| "Noah! ............ Build an ark!" "Lord?" ............ "Why can't we just lease this one? It would save time!" "See ...... I've already started with the animals!!!" Sorry......... couldn't help it! The devil made me do it! Bob

Here are a couple tiny things I did. You may guess that I am into Rat Terriers (if you know what they are, not everyone does) I do rescue for the breed so tending a dozen active little dogs takes up lots of time but I have all the models I can use. The sitting dog was about 2 inches tall. Pictures aren't great, sorry. DMLewis |

Or, I have horses. This is bigger, total height is around 12 inches. This was my first walnut piece, I had the block of wood shipped from Florida then had to acclimate it for a year as it kept wanting to crack due to humidity change. It was also my first experience with working the design up completly in clay before carving. I decided I don't like making a detailed clay model. I really enjoy working in clay but I became overinvolved in trying to "copy" to wood exactly. I believe it actually made it harder than if I had a rough model and worked the details in wood as I went. Funny, I signed up for a clay class at Doane this year. Guess I forgot the lesson. LOL BTW: The lanky passenger is modeled after an 11 year old boy. |

Hey Bob, I think you are going to need a little bigger ship! That one does look nice though on that new bench! Chuck
