| | Advice on a book on bird carving I'm looking for a book on bird carving and finishing for the Beginner to Intermediate level. Being somewhat a beginner, I can carve but not finish small birds in a sitting pose. I don't want to buy a book that I will work out of soon or one that will leave me motionless because it's too advance. Something that covers the whole spectrum would be best. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Phil |

| | Re: Advice on a book on bird carving I purchased the suggested book. Trust me, I know 2 things about birds, they have feathers and they fly. Other books I have bought or looked at are rather intimidating with the details, much more than I want to know.
The detail is in this book but presented in an appealing way. Easy reading, easy to understand. It should be a model for other authors, not just birds, all subjects. I don't have any birds to show off but I do have 3 cats and they really like the birds I carved, they steal them. I am now missing 3 birds and 7 mice, all wood, all carved. Where did they go?

| | Re: Advice on a book on bird carving Well, it looks like this is what I've been looking for. (Some in plaid suits may think this a hasty decision being that I waited a total of what, two days. Just hope they don't come my way looking to sell a bridge.)
What led me was the suggestions and comments and after reading from Amazon's "Take a Look Inside" showed it is a clear, uncomplicated read. The comments on the broad range in level where also helpful, I think I'll buy this book.
Thank you all for your suggestions and comments.

| | Re: Advice on a book on bird carving I have three of the carvng books by Rosalyn Leach Daisy. Two on songbirds and one on shorebirds. I took a class with Roz and carved a miniature Canada Goose. The class was not only fun but very educational. I am now officially hooked! Her webiste is rozdaisey.com.
I think they show good detail of the process as well as painting techniques.
I also have Lori's book which is also very chock full of information. She has a nice style and great pictures. The cedar waxwing is on my to do list.
I do not think you can go wrong with either of these ladies works.
