I like the puppy, Tammy. Very nice work. I'll agree that a bandsaw is a nice thing to have. However, if you don't want to spend the money or don't have a place to keep it, you might consider a coping saw. It's not near as convenient as a bandsaw, but it's a heck of a lot less work than trying to carve away all that waste wood by hand.

I've also recently learned the "trick" of using a large gouge to quickly remove waste wood. A knife is nice, but a good gouge will get rid of that wood a whole lot faster.

Tammy, nice job on the carving and painting of the pup. Craig's list is how I found my bandsaw too. I used Jim's methods before getting the bandsaw. They are a whole lot easier than carving out the waste wood with a knife.

A bandsaw will open up a whole new "problem" though. LOL What can I make out of the scraps? I keep a box near the saw and scraps go in there. You would be surprised how quickly it fills up and what you can make with that scrap wood.

well hubby bought me a bansaw yippi now I need him to get me a power carver I had him cut out my first akita dog now to figure out how to carve it to look like a dog. Its neck is turned any thoughts I don't want to mess it up.
