Hi everybody! This is my first posting. I've been reading this forum for a while now and today I decided to take my first attempt at carving a bird. My girlfriend LOVES birds (and it is apparent by the 12 bird feeders that are hanging from the apple tree in the backyard...) and wants me to carve her an 'army'... About a month ago I purchased the book 'Songbird Carving' by Rosalyn Leach Daisey given that I've seen it being recommended in many posts on this forum. And so the journey began in carving my first ever chickadee (and its my GF favorite bird too!)... Here are a few pictures on my progress so far. It still needs losts of work... I had a hard time understanding how to do the beak... so I tried my best at it and I think I managed to do an OK job. All I'm using for now is a Dremel 4000 and some high quality chisels. I'm going to invest in a good set of carving knives in the next few weeks. Pictures attached. Any feedback or tips are welcome Looking forward to get to know you folks !GC |

Looking good to me! My first ever bird is still sitting on the table by my chair where I left it about 3 months ago. You'll be finished before me so keep posting pictures and maybe I'll get inspired!
