Default Sail Battens

I have several questions related to sail battens. These battens are inserted into pockets on the leach of a sail. Their purpose is to help the roach of the sail to take a proper shape. I recently broke one of the battens. The dimentions are roughly 27' L x 2' W by 3/8' tapering to 1/8'. I know I can get a replacement/substitute fiberglass batten but I would rather have one made out of wood. The wood could be a hard wood, hickory, cedar or oak. Do any of you know anyone that makes wooden battens? Would you have any suggestion as to the wood used to make battens? Any information you could give me would be certainly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your input on this matter. Sincerely, Bill T.
