there have been some cottage industries that have taken off to help people, one making rag rugs on looms. I dont know if there is a call for wooden caskets however. If you really might struggle to pay for it, then if you want to continue serving poor folk, maybe do volunteer work. If your spending money you dont have on a low market service i dont know if that will pay you either profit wise or satisfaction

Honestly it is so darn expensive to die anymore, but I believe it would be a good way to make money, especially in these troubled times.....also you could make urns. You should get your money back with in a few caskets.

I think it's a rather limmited market myself. Most people only need one and hope that they don't need it anytime soon. The same goes with urns and headstones. When they do get one they are usually too grief stricken to shop arround. I believe that you could learn to make them yourself without taking the class. The 1800.00 might be better spent on the tools you need for the job. Tablesaw, jointer, dovetail jig etc... There is a book out on making caskets. Perhaps your local library has a copy. Have you thought about pet caskets as a startup?

Good luck which ever way you decide.
Dan

I've heard that there are some ridiculously strict laws concerning caskets. You might want to look into that end of things before paying for that class.

u can get plans for wooden coffins it's a good way to get good cabinet and miters work but if u know some of that i would put the money to better use coffins r big wooden cabinets got more 10-60% in them if u want to built 1 go for it hand-made oak coffins with some carvins and carved corner post on them r 5000$ up-up u can make them simple or go all out there r people out there that wants 1 of a kind and they will pay for it if people pay 500,000 to $1,000,000 for a house they will pay a lot for a coffin they want [not like every 1 eles has got] and if u wanted to help the low income they could be made of plywood-pine when i die i want to be in a pine box[coffin] i think that's a great idea search under hand-made custom wooden coffins u should find something there

i think a lot of that is sealed vaults and the ground water unless there r some graveyards have some of there own laws some u have to have a sealed coffin vaults because of the space that a concrete vault takes and almost all graveyard u have to have a vaulted coffin or a concrete vault box that seals with a pc. of tar rope to keep it from getting in the ground water sometimes if u r cremated and in a pot-jar they still put u in a vault and marked
