My favorite thing was my first dragon spoon - which was a commission, so I did sell it, of course. But, to be honest, I was happy to let it go - that was the whole point. Maybe lovespoons are different, in that the whole point of them is to give them to someone. I've actually never kept any of my carvings - I gave my first one to my husband, but all the rest, I gave as gifts, or sold. (many more were gifts, than were sold).

Good question... thinking about it, for me, the one I just finished always seems to my favorite! :>) I kept the first carving I ever did (a wood spirit) and I always compare it to my latest to try and see if I am learning and growing as I go. The rest have been sold or became gifts. Carve on...

There are a few things that I still have, mainly because my wife and daughter claimed them! I give away some to people I like and think will appreciate them. I try to sell as much as possible, since that is my funding for any tools I just have to have! I read an article by a carver (Mertz?) that I really agreed with: It's the carving, the process of creating that I really enjoy, much more than the posession of the completed carving. I am always working on the next thing and I have a tendency to see where I can do things better. I am still proud of some of my carvings, but the more recent ones are much better than the first ones......usually!

Hi, I have most of my carvings because like Mike, my wife claims them as soon as I get done and always says the same thing, This is my favorite! I keep telling her that we're gonna have to put an addition on just for them. All of my friends have some and I've donated several to different charity auctions. I also get tired of working on them(loose interest) as soon as they're roughed out, very hard for me to finish, in fact, I don't think I've ever been completely pleased with any of them. Have a great day! Dan |

My favorite project was getting to participate in the group carving that was set up by Rick at Little Shavers a while back. It was a hobo and a pink elephant. There were about 10 carvers that participated. Rick cut out the pieces and each carver carved on it and then passed it on to the next. At the end Rick put all the names in a hat and pulled out the winner of the carving. It was a lot of fun!!!! Maybe someone will want to do that kind of group carving again sometime. Blake |
