First, Di, let me commend you on your persistence! After seeing the finished piece, I think it would have been a shame to scrap it! I'm sure glad you kept at it. NICE piece.

It looks great to me....don't really see much I would change. I really like the design and the base...,.,they compliment each other well! I have had some frustrations at times with painting, but with some patience, you can fix just about anything.
