Default Young warrior feedback please...

This almost got thrown out, multi-times.... carved it out bass wood...a rough out that I made about 40 years younger....and noted that you can see us old farts do carve young people , but I noticed the basswood was very dry, fuzzies to the max as I carved it.., bad wood? I worked long time and was happy until I painted it. First I BLO...it was very nice, then the paint...that darn wood soaked the first stain like a sponge, which ruined it. So me... I decided well then I will ebonized it...painted it black. But that killed the details... so them made the deciding factor was I going to start over or try to save it....I sanded it down and carved it some but, it still had black stain in the grain. I painted it again... yuk...yuk... now after two weeks of trying finish it ... I was rather upset. So I sanded it down a second time....and notice the color matched my hibiscus branch...which I added for a bass. It worked......after banging my head against a wall for solutions.... right now I do not want to look at it!!....but I feel he is finished? I want feedback...if anyone has it please make them,... as I can not see straight. Top is basswood, hibiscus wood base, two dims. sided, 17 inches by 11 inches....... Di

Hi Di,

All I have to say is go easy on yourself. I, too, am my own worst critic. This warrior is a splendid carving the colors and finish look great, at least in the photos. Whatever was wrong with you fixed.

Wow Di, It looks like you almost have it. It looks in the pic, like the base needs a little finishing where the fresh sanding is, but other that that, I think it is looking great.

Nice job, Tom E
