I'm thinking about making a lamp out of this carving. Having problems finding a lamp shade without some modifications. Since this board has a wide variety of input I thought I would ask if anybody would have any other ideas or just leave it be. It is 21" tall by 7" wide and probably weighs 20 lbs. Locust is a very hard wood and not everybody's favorite, but I really like the yellow coloring. Thanks for everyone's input. Indian123

What about making a shade out of some thin aged wood with some indian type burnings or drawings or even shallow relief. Its sounds like allot of work but might really set it off. Just a thought. Ron

wow.. he's awsome! I came across a shade awhile back. I had to go find it back on the web. How about something like this on top? http://www.lampsontheweb.com/frames/items/085299.html |

Nice carving, great looking face! I am familiar with black and honey locust, but I don't know what yellow locust is unless it is honey locust. It can be very hard once dried out but not to bad when wet. I use balck locust to make bows with.

Thanks for the lamp shade link Marci.I think it fits the character. As for the type of wood Justanick may be right about the honey locust. It is what the locals around me call it. It did dull a few of my chisels.I did the whole thing by hand but I think next time I might try a band saw or something to remove the bulk wood. Thanks for the positive comments. Davy
