You know you're a wood carver when ... While working in the early morning hours in the shop to create a basswood carving blank (a full sizes canoe oar to get a wildlife relief carving) a summer gully washer rain hits ... When it's clear that this storm is not about to let up you wrap your basswood blank in YOUR rain coat to keep IT dry in your mad dash back to the house! As you stand on the porch, drenched, drip drying before going inside you, of course, check if the basswood arrived safely. At that moment you realize "You're a true wood carver!" Susan |

That's a good one, Susan, I can just picture it!! Funny you should mention this subject because it's really hit home with me this summer. As I've mentioned, I've had a ton of company, in fact, we're having people in tonight and tomorrow night for dinner, then family reunions and overnight guests the next three weekends in a row. What have I done or am I doing again to get ready for all this company.....cleaning, yard work, getting our place in tip top shape....ummmm.....no, actually I have been carving like crazy in between bursts of company so I have things to work on (detail carving or painting) out in the livingroom while we visit! I just thought to myself before the first round of visitors came, what do you care the most about, an immaculate house and no weeds in the flower beds or carving. Obviously carving won out...and know what...everyone seems more interested in what I'm working on than whether or not I dusted today! Life is good!! Callynne

Thanks for the towel, Ash, I needed it! Callynne, you're a woman after my own heart that clearly has her priorities straight! Oh ... Mike's rain gauge on his weather station notes .89 inches of rain in about 25 minutes. Susan |

Susan you are a true woodcarver I get the picture clearly I would have been exactly the same the wood would have been the priority. Callynne boy you have had a busy summer and looks as if its not going to let up soon. I wish I could get Barb to think the same as you she has to have everything perfect when company are coming even family. What I dont like is that she expects me to help, not that I mind but dusting doesnt have priority over carving. Even if we clean up there are always a few wood chips that find there way in. I agree always the company are interested in my carvngs not the the dust on the shelves. Colin

Good for you Callynne! They want to hang out with YOU and know YOU better, so sharing what you enjoy with them should have far more meaning than spotless housecleaning! Weeding flower beds should be a form of meditation, not a chore. Do it when you feel like it, when you'll enjoy it! Same with carving! Susan, You know you're a wood carver when you DREAM about wood carving and it's a good dream! Wade |
