Default WOW.....NO!!! make that DOUBLE WOW!!!

a couple of days ago, my first order of bass wood arrived from HEINECKE Wood Products, and man, what a beautiful piece of wood....I have NEVER had bass wood that looks as nice as this one does.....you folks were sure right about them!!
The wood that I've been getting locally is full of small cracks....kinda tough to get good results, when your carving falls apart, due to cracks. Can the cracks be the result of over drying?????

Re: your local wood being cracked...
Dull Knife, where are you and what do you consider local? Basswood grows in a lot of places around the country but if you are too far south, the basswood is kind of nasty......too soft, pithy, even crumbly sometimes.... Northern basswood is the best. The colder the winters they have, the better the wood. That might be one explanation....

Sounds like you have been getting cut-offs, there generally full of checks.

I feed all mine to the wood stove.
