For those who enjoy works in progress.....I have been working on a model of a locally built ship and making some progress on her. The summer is winding down here and the shop is quiet most days, so I get lots of work done. Lots of sunshine, a nice breeze off the river and some wood to work. A great way to spend the summer. The hull is Basswood, as is the deck and bulwark planking. Lots to do yet. Bob

Beautiful work Bob as usual. I cant get over how clean your workshop is an organized by the look of it. I cant see across mine and as for the floor you wouldnt know I had one. I am as impressed with your workshop as I am with your carvings and burnings I only wish my workshop looked like that and I was that organized. BTW this dislocation is causing me all kinds of problems I thought it would be getting better by now but it seems to be getting worse. My Physiotherapist said that I may not be able to carve for at least another two months and then not very much.UnHappy I never thought a dislocation could be this much problem. I can still type though and love seeing all the posts thanks for sharing with us. Colin

Bob, I'll just echo Colin's comments. It is really nice to see the beginnings of some of your work. It is also obvious that your God-given and personally developed skills have surpassed those of a lot of us! Al |

I can't stand "clean " people! Wink" Talking nice job on the model! Why do we get all of the gobbledegook with the smileys? Or is it just my computer?

Colin, Do what the doctors say, heal the right way the first time! Can you run a shop vac with one arm? Oh, well! Bob, Great work as always, keep us posted on progress. Have you ever thought of turning out a fast cheap boat designed for kids to float and play with? It'd be great to find a pattern you could turn out in 20 minutes that "tracked" perfectly and floated upright, able to hold a couple plastic soldiers or similar 3" people. Wade |

Colin my friend, I am sorry to hear that news. Perhaps you should take it a bit easier? Trying to do things with one arem and using the other while in a sling, may not be allowing it to heal properly. Give it time and follow their advice and it will heal. The shop is a work bench in the Model Shipwright Shop that I occupy for the summer. Displaying my shipmodels and working on them there, so I try to keep it from getting too messy. But then I do that at home too, so I'll plead guilty at being clean! Besides I hate finding wood chips in a model after I'm ready to display it. Sad It's bad enough down here with a family of spiders that took up residance in the rigging of a clipper ship....but they left when I tried to make them set the sails and sweep the decks! Wink The building is rough built, but has the flavor of an old shop, so the wind blows the dust in the cracks in the doors and all kinds of things crawl up through the floor boards. They (the city) built me this nice work bench this year, the perfect thing, steady, nice and smooth. Better than the steel framed card table I used last year. This one in made from Eastern White Cedar, and it's everything I can do, not to start carving into it. The legs are massive and I can imagine all kinds of great ideas for them! Thanks for the kind words folks. I'll keep you posted on progress, though you know it takes a while to do these things? Bob

Bob, that's a great start!! I can just picture you in your studio, working away, a cool breeze blowing in off the river, happy and content, except for the creepy crawling things!! Colin, I'm so sorry to hear you are having trouble. When I told Ben about your accident and that I was so glad you hadn't broken anything, he told me it still might take a while till you were healed...bummer!! Be good and listen to the Doctors so you get back to 100% as soon as possible!! Dr. Deborah's advice for the day! |

Bob, Nice start on her, what type of boat is it? Kinda reminds me of some of the fishing ships that I use to see on lake Mich around St. Joe area, been many years but the form looks somewhat the same. And I have to say , for the city to build you a workbench , so they have a massive respect for your work and time. Colin , I will tell you something a doctor once told me, It is eaiser to heal a bone fracture than to heal tendons. A sprain is often longer to heal than a break. Your dislocation, streached every tendon in your shoulder, If it did not include an AC seperation you are extreamly lucky! An Ac seperation is 6 months to 1 year for full recovery with surgery. The sprains will heal with time and doing the excerises they give you to do, and I know how much your missing carving, but do what your instructed to do ! Carvings can be made up, but pushing the shoulder to fast could result in addition damage , and that is not worth the price ! Ash |
