Callynne,

I didn't know the teapot was carved until you told all! Excellent work!

But I have some questions if you'd be willing to part with some "trade" secrets!

Did you paint the fairy and pot with acrylic paint? The teapot looks like it has a matte finish, and the fairy has a gloss finish. How you do that? With Krylon sprays?

Hope you don't mind me being so NOSEY! LOL

Bob

Thanks guys, glad you like her! Bob, is it possible to be nosey or keep 'trade' secrets on this board?? I don't think so!! I've said many times that I wouldn't be where I am today without this message board, it's my one and only carving class!

I'm more than happy to answer your questions. Yes, all of it is painted with acrylics except for the Fairy's skin. I like to leave it the natural wood, if you look closely you can see the woodgrain. The very best thing I like for finishing wood so it looks skin color is Formby's Tung Oil Finish. I just use a paint brush and paint it on. For some reason it makes the wood look just the color I want. After it's dry I paint in the eyes and lips, cheeks I use a Q-tip and apply a little regular make up blush.

Her dress and wings have a gloss to them because after painting the color I want (i.e. her yellow dress) I paint over them with Jo Sonja's Iridescent Color, this gives them a beautiful luster that's perfect for a Fairy! Her wings get a coat of sparkle glaze. If you're not familiar with it, it's sort of a 'sparkles in glue' that you just paint on.

When this piece is entirely finished I will give it a couple coats of Satin Gloss Sealer, that will bring all the 'glosses' to the same degree of shine. If you have any other questions just ask! Thanks again for the great compliments everybody! Callynne

With that amount of effort, it's no wonder your work looks so great!

Thanks for the info!

You're welcome Bob! Teri, thank you for such nice compliments! I'm glad you like her! I drew the rest of the design in on the other side of the teapot over the weekend, I hope to get it all finished up in the next couple weeks, in between working on Santas!! Sure will be happy to have her finished and displayed, just have to decide where I should put her! Thanks again! Callynne
