Default Woodspirits

So I'm pretty new to this woodcarving thing, someone on bushcraftUSA posted a tutorial for carving woodspirits, and I just had to try. Now I'm hooked. Here's my first woodspirit

And the one I think is my best so far

I know I need to work on the eye detail a bit, and just refine my technique a bit, but think I'm doing pretty good. yes?

Nice! You can see the progression from the first to the second. Glad that you are enjoying it and welcome to the site.

I think they are both box elder. it's found wood, and I'm not too good at identifying trees. We have box elder all over the place here, especially down the hiking trail just up the street. In fact there's probably about 50 feet of 6in diameter cut down trees just laying beside the entrance to the trail.

I've already scammed about 8 feet of it. Thinking about doing a larger sized woodspirit once I get some more tools, or even a small totem pole (just need to find patterns for totem animals.
