Default "Woodspirit Sunday" daily thread 21 Marc

Goodmorning to you all,
I thought that I would start the daily thread as no body else had started it this morning.
I am sure the good Lord will forgive me for skipping church this morning we recieved another 6 inches of snow last night and with the high winds it is has drifted two feet or more in my drive way. So I thought I would carve for the day and while I was at it I would post a few pictures on picturetrail in the workshop album. I am the worst person in the world for being messy because I get so involved in what I am doing I put nothing away I just go from one tool to another that is probably why I am busy honing my tools all the time. The carvings are the ones I completed last week I didnt get them all finished I still have two or three that I will do the finishing touches on today. What are you all up to today I am always interested to see what other people are carving. I see by the new copy of Carving Magazine that Elmer has a nice article in there great job Elmer I just love your carvings.
Colin

Good Morning!

I've got 2 new projects started this week, a sign for my brother's company which is 40' x 12' x 1' and the wood is Honduras Mahogany. I've also started a foreshortened jaguar that I am carving in relief also in the Mahogany. I think this now makes 7 projects on the go.

Since I don't have a shop to work in, I do most of my carving in my dining room and the relief work is done on my kitchen counter. Fortunately all my friends know I'm really into carving and if they stop by they're not overly shocked to see the state of my kitchen area. Of course if I know I have company coming I tend to clean it up somewhat. :-/

Today I'm going to be working on both the new relief of the Jag as well as working on my current cougar.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Lindy

Super work Colin!...great looking woodspirits. Don't worry about the look of your shop, if it's too tidy a guy is afraid to use it and get it messy!

Very nice wood spirits colin! Don't worry about that snow...we had 14' come down this time last week and its aleady gone...ahh the beauty of spring!

I finished up three large bark santas today.
It was very unusual cottonwood bark...I found it a couple weeks ago and almost didn't pick it up...Its only about an inch and a half thick but its very rough on the outside and formed into wide slabs rather than the narrow segments you usualy see.
You can't tell from the photos (my pic trail site under 'new stuff') but these are around 8' wide and 17'tall.

Now I just need to find the spot I was at so I can get the rest of it!
I didn't follow my own motto...when in doubt, bring it home anyway!

have a nice week everyone!

Hi All,

Did I miss something in your posting Collin?? I couldn't find any picture trail link. I found links on some of the other posters but not on yours. As to having a clean work area.....well, uh?! I have been forced to keep all my stuff in a large Plano tackle box....My lovely bride has taken over our garage with her picture framing stuff....she works for a customer picture framerstore and she has almost enough stuff to actually frame every inamnimate object in our house...LOL! Seriously I need to clear out a lot of our junk in the garage and get her stuff organized. Then I can organize my work bench, which is PHD--piled higher and deeper. I inherited a poorly designed work area that I hope to improve...and it seems that the previous renter was into working on cars and the work surfaces are somewhat greasy/oily and or soaked in dilute battery acid. I surmise that I would best be surved by pulling them all out and replacing them with new unsullied wood.

I am sorry for rambling on like this when my initial question was ...Did I miss Collins picture trail link?

well I must toddle off to bed as 0430 comes very early

good carving to you all,

Chahlie
