I put a drive on early this morning and managed to finish my large birch woodspirit sooner than expected. This 5 foot carvings is going to an auction the first of April to be part of a fundraiser. The focus on the fundraiser is the arts so there will be a variety of crafts, paintings, carvings, etc up for sale. To make this carving more interesting, I may have a slide show going to show veiwers the steps from start to finish....so I am sharing a few of the slides here for your viewing pleasure. This is not a tutorial so I hope you don't mind seeing some of the progress pictures to get me to the finished product. The carving was treated with linseed oil and sealer. These first shots show the eyes and nose taking shape. |

What can I say just another wonderful carving Patrick. Definatly yours no doubt at all your style is your own. Love the bulbus nose and the eyes are absolutly captivating. He looks as if he has been on an all night binge a little hung over. Is this your first woodspirit I have pictures of just about all your carvings and I dont recall that you had done a woodspirit before. Again Kudos buddy very well done. Colin

Hey Kathy and Colin. Thanks for your comments. Your fast Kathy, you squeezed in a posting before I finished loading all the pics .Colin, I've done a lot of characters over the last three years and I believe some of them could be referred to as woodspirits...at least that's what I called them. There should be a number of them in the WCI gallery. There are not many on my site as I update it now and again with newer carvings. If you cannot locate any, let me know and I'll email you some of the pictures I have on the computer. Patrick |
