Default Woodspirit (inverted)

I did this type of carving only once before as its a real challenge getting my gouges to carve the wood when there is wood on either side of the face. I wanted to give the woodspirit a wind blowing effect so I moved the beard off from the centre to exaggerate the effect. I burned the eyes and put on a coat of boiled linseed oil. I may leave him the way he is but the detailing doesn't show very well. He stands approx. 4 feet tall and is carved in basswood. Thanks for looking.
Patrick

HI Patrick,

Really like this piece. The eyes and mustache movement is great. I also like the effect of the big, smooth nose and the smooth eyebrows. Pleasing effect overall.

Very unusual effect on this piece, Patrick...I love what you did with it! I have a pine knot that has stumped me for some time because of it's shape, and you have given me an idea here......of course, mine will not be carved with the expertise that YOU are capable of...LOL. Great job on this. I love the whole effect. Bonnie

Patrick,
Great looking woodspirit. It looks great right now and I think I would leave it alone! The beard is eye catching and the expressive face I really like. Glad ya posted. Jim OH

My favorite effect, as your side views show, is how deep set that you have placed the face into the wood. That is an interesting effect that I must work into some of mine in the future. Nice work and thank's for posting!

I love the effect you've aquired here. I really get the feel that he's living there in the wood! Spooky and beautiful at the same time!

I like this neat wood spirit Patrick! It also is how you use to carve and it looks really neat! Just plain good work on your behalf! Forrest
