I'm trying out a different method of carving woodspirits, as taught by Waitpinga Whittler. He was kind enough to show me how he does his spirits and faces. Well I hope I've done you proud mate!

I had actually thought about doing some incense burners like this and looking at yours is really inspirational. THey look VERY nice. What kind of wood are you using for them? Good job! Floyd |

Hi Floyd, thank you Right now I'm using Ash and Hazel for the stick-based ones and Lime for the bought wood. Hazel is much better to carve than the Ash though, the growth rings on the Ash can be a pain. It's what I had to hand though so it all got used. It's wood I was given that didn't make the cut for sticks and canes, I hate to see a good bit of wood go to waste though don't you? Lime or Basswood is MUCH easier to carve though.

Aww Keoma, now you're making me blush! Glad you like them. Here, what do you think of this little guy? I call him my pygmy woodspirit he's only 1/2" diameter and 7" long... |

Very cool looking spirits. I really like the parts in the hair and the expressions in the eyes. In my imagination, the wild wood spirits find themselves in domestic objects and the parts in the hair convey that they aren't wild in trees or hiking sticks anymore. But I'm odd like that.
