Default Woodspirit: "First Place"

I was lucky enough to take First Place, Intermediate division with my woodspirit, picture is on the picturetrail board in the album 'Woodspirits'.

I tried something different with this spirit, combined him with two other items, a candle holder and insense burner.

The candle sends a nice soft glow to the spirit face when lit. I have done several others, have them mounted on our wall outside next to the hot-tub, real neat effect at night.

Hope you enjoy, all comments welcomed.

Bill,
Nice carving I really like him. Congratulations on the first place finish but with a piece like that is doesnt suprise me. Seems to me you have been getting a lot of first place rankings these days I have been seeing lots of blue ribbons. I really love the finish on your lastest carving. I tend not to sand my carvings because bark is so fragile, how do you sand them with out knocking off a nose or lip etc? Also love the finish on your bark carvings what kind of finish do you use?
Last be not least where do you get your cottonwood bark not from this part of the country I am sure.

Thanks everyone for your great comments, I appreciate them.

Colon, to answer your questions.

I've been getting my cottonwod bark from ebay, have had three batches come in and its all been great size pieces.

Finish: spray mini-wax satin clear

Sanding: this is my last step, once all gouge/knife is done and I feel the piece is at its 'done stadge', I then go over it by hand with only 'fine' sandpaper, never coarse paper, and one doen't have to apply much pressure on cottonwood.

Again, my thanks go out to eveyone on the board.
