Default Woodspirit in basswood

I've done a number of these type of faces but this if the first one I put in a square piece of basswood. Its much easier and quicker as there is very little waste wood and it cuts the time in half. This fellow took me between 4-5 hours and at a comfortable pace. Its basically modeled off of Mark G. woodspirit mask. He's around 14 inches tall, carved in basswood, treated with tung oil, sealer and dark wax. Passed on the acrylics this time except for the white dot in the burnt eye to give some highlight.

Thank you Merle. I put the time down because that is a typical question I get from non-carvers..."Now how long would that take you to carve?" or "That must take forever to carve".
This time I looked at the clock - something I don't like doing when I carve - and found that the carving was completed sooner than I expected. Carvers know that time is not part of the hobby....however, I know a number of carvers here may have something to say about that, especially if you carve for a living

Excellent job! It really comes to life! Leaving it almost natural with just the eyes highlighted really gives it character.
