Hello Joy and thanks for your kind words. I use a mallet and long handled Pfeil tools 99% of the time. When I get into really large logs, I will use a carving disc on a grinder to remove some of the bulk to save abusing my mallets, however, the disc is very messy.

I love the way birch takes on such character, and your spirit really brings that out.

Well Patrick,I can always tell one of your carvings.The eyes give it away.I mean that as a compliment.What are your plans for this guy?Does he have a home.?He is a little smaller than your other carvings.Are you running out of birch?Just joking my friend.It turned out really well.I am going to start an other birch carving soon myself.I like the texture and find it fun to carve.Thanks for your recent advice on oils and sealers.I plan on a little change up with the way I am sealing my carvings.Davy
