I see several different carving events and am wondering what would be a must go to? If you were taking a vacation and could time it to an event what would you choose and why? I'm hoping to get a vacation idea and get some wood carving classes in at the same time.... Thanks |

The short answer is - everything! Sorry I can't be more helpful, but carving in all its aspects fascinates me. |

Hello Skittles, I've done that before--and love it. The first part of my answer is...are you going alone--or will you have family with you? If you're not alone, does your company on the trip like to see carvings too? Because my job keeps me from carving as much as I used to, I regularly like to take a 2-3 day carving workshop just to get away and be able to carve all day and, hopefully, complete a carving of my own. Being with other carvers is a real motivator. Just visiting and seeing how they approach carving problems is a learning experience in itself. I also like to go to carving shows where there may be a guest carving instructor--that is a real "two-for" the money!! I can spend hours at a carving show looking at the different carvings and visiting with the carvers. Most will tell you anything you want to know about their style of carving. I even like to schedule side-trips to my vacations and trip to meet with new/old carving friends from this board--time may only allow a friendly cup of coffee with them, but it's a nice break. So, sounds like you're on the right track--enjoy! Donna T

Hi all! If you get the other carving mag. There is a carving cruise in october I believe. So you can kill two birds at once. If you love ocean cruises and carving and going to great places and carving.then It may be worth looking into.

I attended NEWR (NorthEast Woodcarvers Roundup) last summer for the first time after a couple years of aborted attempts at carving, figuring that it would jump start me. My wife and I both went and had a WONDERFUL time and now she is as interested in carving as I am. I can't recommend it highly enough. I would contact Cherry Ridge asap to reserve a camping spot as I know it fills up pretty quickly if you want to stay on site. I would also highly recommend getting the listing of workshops and instructors (do a Google search on NEWR 2007) and plan out which workshops you want to attend. Then get there early on Sunday (3pm is checkin) and they open the workshop signups around 5pm I believe. Several of the more popular ones will fill up quite quickly. All in all, and excellent way to spend a few days carving and learning with great folks! Chuck |

I did a search on NEWR 2007 and got 3,300 hits. The North East Woodcarver's Roundup did not appear in the first 25 pages! I did a search on North East Woodcarvers and didn't get anything. Finally found it by searching on Northeast Woodcarvers.
