Two of us from the SD Woodcarvers were recently asked to do a mini-woodcarving display at our local arts and science facility. There was a kickoff for a local reading promotion. The book being focused on during the kick off was "To Kill A Mockingbird".
If anyone remembers the book or the movie there were two small soap figures left for the children to play with. This was apparently the tie in to woodcarving...?
Anyway, woodcarvers don't turn down a request to show their stuff so we did our best. Since the tie in seemed to be these little people, I did a sequence carving to show how you might make a "little person" out of wood. Attached are the four pieces I used to illustrate the sequence.
Anyway the artsy group gave us a courteous look and we managed to hand out some bookmarks with our club info on them. So that was my Friday night....
Well done! The step by step is a great idea for displays. They certainly get the questions flowing.

Great job, Mike! No matter how many carvings I do myself, I love seeing other peoples work in progress! Yours is extra special since it ties in with such a great novel, gives the readers something extra to think about! Thanks for sharing! Deborah
Wonderful display.
Did you also show some of your really "excellent" work?
I think the 'artsy' folks would have dropped their mouths open if they saw that displayed...
