I am working on a carving for a friend who gave me the dreaded piece of "free wood". It is a peice of Black Walnut, and it has one worm hole right where I need to carve. This wood has some pretty serious sentimental value to my friend, and I want to carve an angle out of it to remember his daaughter whom he lost when she was very young. I would like to know if there is a decent filler I can use fill the hole. Preferably the filler can be carved. The cosmetics are not of primary concern, just filling the gap, I can touch it up when I finish the piece. I have ensured the worms are dead now due to the Carbon Monoxide treatment I applied to the wood. Any suggestions would be of great help. Thanks, Brian Mac |

cut a little square piece of walnut, preferablly with the end grain going the same way as the face of the wood...drive it into the hold and cut off flush, if its done right, you can't hardly tell its there, not sure that I wouldn't wait until I had the carving about done except for sanding, that way you are not trying to carve the plug.....my suggestion anyway Cowboy
