Default wood spoons

Hi All, I like to carve wood spoons. I have a question on carving green wood. Has any of you ever used boiled potato to stop cracking as it drys. I read some place this is a good thing to do. NMkid

Bummer, can't help you out either, NMkid, I know a potato added to too salty soup is supposed to cut the salty taste....somehow I don't think that's going to help you any.....Oh well, what I really wanted to say was, Welcome!! Deborah

Welcome!
There is a chainsaw carving forum that potato as a crack deterant was discussed quite a bit. I don't recall the long term outcome, or know if it's been long enough to know yet.
Anchorseal is a great end grain sealer that I use to prevent cracking. If you do a search under Highland Hardware you'll find my supplier. I think it's about 15 a gallon, and that goes a long way. It's also on ebay but watch the shipping costs!
