| | Re: wood spirit made out of diamond willow Thanks for the complements!! I like to carve this diamond willow! I have found some the girth of 6" to 8" which seems to be nice for the larger carvings. I have been on a carving craze since I seen the dimaond willow subject here on the post. I have manage to debark about 8 to 9 Diamond willow walking sticks. I seem to have the eye for what I am looking for now with the help of you all. I have even become fond of the partially rotten diamond willow. The bugs seem to give it a nice look, but kind of concerned with the critters taking up resendence here at home LOL.. again thanks for all the help with this diamond willow search and comments.

| | Re: wood spirit made out of diamond willow How did I miss this delightful little dude! Very nice work!!!
As for the bugs usually if you are using a sealer as varnish or polyurethane or a mix of turpentine and linseed oil the finish destroys any egg sacks that are left. They either poisin (SP) the eggs as in the turp/linseed oil mix or they sufficate them as with the varnishes, urethanes, and polyurethanes.
But with this little dude I would put up with any unexpected visitors to have him in my walking stick holder.

| | Re: wood spirit made out of diamond willow Ditto I also missed this post really nice carving and I agree Diamond Willow or as some people call it Alaskan Diamond Willow is beautiful and as much fun to find as carve. From What info I have they say that the bug only eats the willow for a while and then departs at any rate as Susan said once you have the finish on it the bugs are dead and sealed in for life. Again nice carving.

| | | Re: wood spirit made out of diamond willow Nice job, I've never carved DW yet nor have I done a walking stick, so I guess these will get added to my "to-do" list. Again, great job. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
