Congratulations Dan, your Cottonwood Bark Spirit looks just great. I like him a lot! You know you can't just carve one, you got to carve more now. Kathy

Thanks Kathy! It was fun to experience cottonwood bark for the first time! I've already got another piece screwed to my bark holder and in my vise. Hope to get started on him tomorrow. Still trying to decide what I want to do exactly. This piece is a lot bigger than the one I just did, and I'm thinking about giving him a hat. Can wood spirits have hats?? I guess they can if I give him one! Anyway, the fantasy house might have to wait just a little while longer. Like you said, I've just got to do another wood spirit right away! Dan C. |

Hi Dan C., hey your woodspirit can have a hat if you want him too...it's your creation. That's what I think anyway! lol I'm looking forward to seeing your next woodspirit. You know you can also carve Indian's and Mountain Men too out of Cottonwood. Kathy

Dan, Great job on your wood spirit, really looks like a natural spirit flowing from the bark, like the curvy lines of his hair, beard, face profile. Very good carving, Bark is fun to work with, your going to be showing us more spirits for sure. Bill

Hmmmm... Once again my reply went away in mid-keystroke. Oh well, I'll do it again. Kathy - Yeah, pretty much whatever we want I suppose! I'd like to do an imp, but probably not this one. I just had a whole big section shear off on this new one. Got out the magic glue and it should be ready to go again! You have to be reminded once in a while not to pry... Bill - thanks for your kind comments! The uncarved bark just makes a really nice natural frame. Dan C. |

Hi Dan,Great Woodspirit and well done. I like the finish, nice that you described the way you did the finish. I guess I put carving in Cotton wood bark off long enough so you just inspired me to get some and give it a try. I see Smokey Mount. Woodcarvers Supply has some so will be placing an order. Thanks for the inspiration and showing your work. Merle

Forrest - Thanks for your kind comments. That finish kind of surprised me when it came out that way, but I really like it. Glad you do too! Merle - Glad you like him! And hey, that's great that you're going to give it a try! I'm looking forward to what you do. I'm sure it will be great! Also, I didn't know Smokey Mountain sold cottonwood bark. That's real nice to know. In the next 1-2 months, I'm going to a couple of big shows where I should be able to pick some more up, (along with some diamond willow) but the people at Smokey Mountain are great and I've got them on my list now when I need some more.
